Safety Tread

Tread refers to anything you walk on as in “to tread on” and safety tread similarly refers to any flooring material you walk on designed for safety.

Examples include various types of non slip stair tread like rubber and vinyl stair tread as well as others we discuss in other places on this site. We’ll concentrate on non stair safety tread in this article.

Safety tread covers a wide gamut of products, including flooring, walkways, and products that are applied to existing flooring.

Amico Safety Tread Flooring is a metal flooring product with perforated dimples which provide excellent slip resistance, can be made into custom shapes, has a long life span with close to zero maintenance, and has a choice of different drainage patterns.
It’s used for industrial as well as institutional and commercial environments. It has low projections and a closed area to provide safe and comfortable walking, even for “women in heels.”

Another example from Amico is their Diamond Grip Walkway, a one piece metal plank grating designed for walkways. It’s a grating designed for walking on with serrated edges formed around diamond shaped openings and provides slip resistance under even extreme conditions like ice, oil, and grease. It has a lightweight design, requires minimal maintenance, and is simple and economical to install.

Safety Track Resilient Non-Slip Safety Tape consists of 6 by 24 inch clear treads, which are resilient and non-abrasive yet have an anti slip texture and are National Flooring Safety Institute (NFSI) certified for High Traction. They have aggressive adhesive, meaning they stick well, and are mop friendly. Suggested for industrial and commercial indoor use.

Safety Walk Tread Tape tape by 3M comes in 2” by 60 foot rolls, is designed for steps, entrances, ladders and docks, and is easily applied with its adhesive backing.

Safety-Walk Medium Resilient Tread Rolls, also by 3m, is designed for light/medium traffic or even barefoot areas. It a slip-resistant textured material with a pressure sensitive adhesive (that means “tape”) and for use on flat smooth surfaces.

Island Palm 8 Decorative No Slip Safety Treads is a more whimsical example of safety tread. These are a set of eight palm tree shapes treads for baths and showers.
